Getting into my Groove

26/Jul/09 Comments off

One thing I always enjoy doing when I am bored: Designing or redesigning logo’s. Because I have good quality programs (now!) and a creative mindset, I like seeing how I would present a logo if it were up to me. Many of them are not publishable because they are businesses that can afford to sue the pants off me!

But I felt it important to mention this. I’ve added graphic design to my repertoire because I am now getting the occasional paid job for my efforts!

The important part is that I have found what I enjoy most doing with my time: I get great pleasure out of creating, designing, and building images that either make a difference or stand out in the crowd.

Further proof that I can do anything when I set my mind to doing it. As said by Liz Strauss,

You don’t have to imagine your future in detail to create it. Many of us stop ourselves from taking a gamble because we don’t have what we think we need to be successful. It really is okay to move forward without these things as long as you understand that the destination can change.”

What are you doing because you know you can do it well?

Closer to the Switch

I found this great video within the latest glancenetworks article. It is a ‘gem’ by David Pogue from 2006.

It is 21 minutes long, yet from start to finish you will be entertained and retrained, laugh and cry and wonder why so many tech industries are only just beginning to listen.

Have a look, laugh and listen carefully to the video

Even if you do not make software or write code for any sort of website, you will still enjoy the tongue-lashing he gives Microsoft and any company that makes it difficult for users to navigate their hardware, software or online experience.

Yes, I use Microsoft products at home because that is what I have grown up – and I am quite proficient in the use of many MS Suite products. Yet I have an Apple Touch for convenience. With Email, Calnder, Contacts, Wifi and intant availability, I turn to it every time I want something quick. Why? Because the startup time is less than a minute, whereas the Laptop with all its MS installations and modem-connection issues can take up to 5 minutes. Sure I could make a coffee whilst I am waiting … but what if a client is waiting, or in 5 minutes the train-ride is over? My Apple Touch wins everytime.

Thanks to David Pogue and GlanceWorks for reminding me why I really do prefer Apple and am closer to making the big switch over. Strange, I never thought I’d hear those words out of my mouth. I wonder if I could install Apple products onto a DELL machine?

New Idea, Fresh Direction

18/May/09 1 comment

Around 2am this morning I had a moment of brilliance. It’s taken 3 hours of work to ensure the idea works properly in both IE8 and Mozilla Firefox. And now it does!

It’s not easily noticeable, unless you’ve lifted the hood on the HTML and CSS on my personal web site previously … but the CSS is now much more ‘flexible’. Loving it!

Why is this important to me? Because now I can go to stage #3, and I hadn’t anticipated being passed Stage #2 until Wednesday this week!

Sorry, not telling you everything yet. Things to do, code to write, gallery’s to make… whoops, almost gave the game away! More later…

Does anyone think/believe Adelaide could host a Web Directions RoadShow? If yes, would you be the organiser?
